Networks of Motoneurons with Mixed-Mode Oscillations

چکیده
In this paper we study the role of Mixed-Mode Oscillations (MMOs), observed experimentally in motoneurons, in the dynamics of different networks. As control parameters we have the applied current (Iapp) and the coupling strength (Ggap) between pairs of neurons. By fixing the value of one of these parameters, we analyze the dynamics in the network with identical neurons via a synchrony measure (χ2) which gives the average fluctuations in the voltage with respect to the fluctuations in the voltage of single cells. To do so, we first compare the synchrony measure with the number of cells given a global coupling. Secondly, we compare χ2 with the number of connections among cells by changing the number of kth nearest neighbors. Finally, we look at small-world topologies to observe the dependance of χ2 on the randomness in the network. We also analyze the dynamics of a network with neurons in different regimes, these examples show the importance of mixed-mode oscillations in the overall behavior.

Mixed mode oscillations in mouse spinal motoneurons arise from a low excitability state.
We explain the mechanism that elicits the mixed mode oscillations (MMOs) and the subprimary firing range that we recently discovered in mouse spinal motoneurons. In this firing regime, high-frequency subthreshold oscillations appear a few millivolts below the spike voltage threshold and precede the firing of a full blown spike. By combining intracellular recordings in vivo (including dynamic cl...

Vibrissa motoneurons in the facial nucleus innervate the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles that move the whiskers. Their intrinsic properties affect the way they process fast synaptic input from the vIRT and Bötzinger nuclei together with serotonergic neuromodulation. In response to constant current (I(app)) injection, vibrissa motoneurons may respond with mixed mode oscillations (MMOs), in which...

Understanding of short-term synaptic depression (STSD) and other forms of synaptic plasticity is a topical problem in neuroscience. Here we study the role of STSD in the formation of complex patterns of brain rhythms. We use a cortical circuit model of neural networks composed of irregular spiking excitatory and inhibitory neurons having type 1 and 2 excitability and stochastic dynamics. In the...

Transversal oscillation of coronal loops that are interpreted as signatures of magneto hydrodynamics (MHD) waves are observed frequently in active region corona loops. The amplitude of this oscillation has been found to be strongly attenuated. The damping of transverse oscillation may be produced by the dissipation mechanism and the wake of the traveling disturbance. The damping of transversal ...
